Absences (term-time)
As parents, you have a legal responsibility to ensure your child's attendance at school. During the academic year, pupils are at school for 190 days and at home for 175 days.
Please be aware that The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013, which became law on 1 September 2013, states that Head Teachers may not grant any leave of absence during term-time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Parents should note that leave of absence will not be given for holidays or attendance at sporting events (unless the child is competing) during term time under any circumstances. The Head Teacher is also required to determine the number of school days a child can be away from school if leave is granted.
If your child is absent due to illness, please notify the school office, either by telephone or via Studybugs by 8;40am on the first morning of absence, and each day of their absence unless a return date has been agreed. A written note is also required if your child is unable to take part in PE.
You can report an absence through Study Bugs or leave an absence message on (01483) 761531.
If your child does require leave during term-time for other reasons, please complete the 'Leave of Absence' form below and return it to the School Office.
Unauthorised absence of 10 sessions or more will result in the issue of a Penalty Notice (a session is 0.5 days, AM/PM registration)
The Penalty Notice is £80, per child per parent/carer, if paid within 21 days or £160 if paid after 21 days but within 28 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in the Local Authority considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
Pupils in year 6 will not be granted leave, under any circumstances, until after the SATs in May.
