When children start with us in Year 3 or beyond, their phonics, fluency and comprehension levels are checked.  Pupils who are either new to English or still working on the early stages of reading will receive phonics intervention. As a school we use FFT Success For All Phonics Scheme.

Horsell Junior uses the FFT programme as it compliments the additional interventions we also run which targets developing reading fluency skills (alongside spelling and recap of phonics knowledge). Through the FFT programme, we regularly review reading fluency and comprehension. This enables us to support any children working behind their peers and identify any additional learning barriers which may be preventing enjoyment in reading and being able to access age-related texts.
